I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but one of my favorite things to do is to try out new skincare. Now, the way I say it makes me sound like I have really tough skin that can take anything, which is not true at all. People often ask me if I don't have sensitive skin since I'm always trying new products and putting them to the test.
I have dry (sometimes combination) and sensitive skin, especially in the winter. My skin easily reacts to different changes and I'm extremely weary that this can happen with something I eat or apply. However, being the adventurous person that I am, I like to research new products and test them out. By now, I have a sense of which products tend to break me out and which products work better for me.
When I was contacted by Reviva Labs to test out their products, at first I was hesitant. I never heard of Reviva Labs before and to try out skincare from an unknown brand seemed far from my liking. However, after reading more into their company and testing out their products, I gained an interest for their products. FYI: Please remember that all my opinions are honest and I am not affiliated with Reviva Labs in any way.
When you open their website, you will see this on their home page:
Reviva Labs prides in being a "quiet" company for 38 years and specializing in skincare that has origins in professional skincare salons. They also don't test on animals and are paraben free.
The 3 products they sent me to test out and review were the Stem Cell Booster Serum, the Firming Eye Serum, and the Hyaluronic Acid Serum.
All three have the same type of glass packaging and pump.
The product that caught my attention right away was the:
This serum contains Swiss Apple Stem Cells extract, which has its origins in Switzerland where scientists have extracted stem cell from the rare Uttwiler Spatlauber Swiss Apple, which stimulates the skin's epidermal cells.
I was initially impressed with the pump packaging.
I'm sure many people can agree that pumps are more convenient and sanitary at the same time. There are many great products out there that would be even better with pump packaging like so. I find that this pump is easy to control how much product you want. I don't like when pumps pump out way too much product and feels like a waste.
The directions say that this product can be used in the daytime and nighttime skincare routine. I actually prefer using this serum in my nighttime routine when I use a heavier cream before I sleep.
The consistency of the product when pumped out is a gel. However, once my finger touches the gel, it turns into a liquid. I find it strangely difficult to apply since it keeps sliding around all over my hand before I can even apply it on my face. It could be how the product reacts to the heat from my fingers? I actually found that this was the same for all the products I received.
My Personal Experience:
There is no scent to this product at all. I was actually hoping for it to smell like apples since I love apples. Possibly because of it's watery consistency when it is applied on the face and neck, it dries really fast. Once dried, the skin feels smoother and a tad glowy. I wouldn't say that the skin feels softer though. The directions say to wait about a minute for it to settle into the skin before applying the next step in the skincare routine, but I honestly found that the product dries really quickly.
I haven't experienced any sensitive reactions or breakouts which is a huge relief.
I wouldn't say that I've seen a huge difference in my skin since I'm not too concerned about wrinkles and aging just yet (I am in my early 20s), but I strongly believe that using anti-aging products earlier in life has its benefits.
The next product that I have is the Firming Eye Serum with DMAE & Alpha Lipoic Acid & Vitamin C Ester $19
One of my problematic areas and a big concern for me is the area around my eyes. Lately, I've noticed that the dark circles underneath my eyes are more prominent and people often as me if I'm tired.
To be honest, to this day, I haven't exactly found my HG eye cream or eye serum. I've tried a few high and low-end eye creams and my biggest concern is that I don't want the product to leave little white bumps under my eyes, which is called milia.
Luckily, I didn't experience having any milia underneath my eyes when I used the Firming Eye Serum.
Since it has the same watery texture when it touches my fingers, I find that it's a little hard to apply compared to eye creams. I feel like I'm applying a toner underneath my eyes. I do like the cooling sensation when I apply this product. This definitely helps with the puffiness.
The last product was somewhat random for me since I actually was expecting to receive a different product (Makeup Primer) from Reviva Labs.
However, instead, I received the Hyaluronic Acid Serum $22
From what I've read, this product should be a moisturizing miracle since it contains Hyaluronic Acid, which is excellent for moisturizing.
As I've mentioned with the other products, I find that it's difficult to apply this product since it dries so fast. It has the same exact gel to liquid texture.
I like to apply this serum in my daytime skincare routine since I use the Swiss Apple Stem Cell Booster Serum at night. I think this Hyaluronic Acid Serum is excellent for the colder days when my skin dries up so badly that sometimes it hurts. I find that this serum helps keep my skin feeling more replenished.
One thing to note is that I don't use this product every single day. I noticed that the first times I used this product, I broke out. I'm not sure if the reason is because of this product, but whenever I experience a breakout after using new products, I give it a break. The next time I used the product, I didn't break out so that was a relief. It could have been something else that caused me to break out here and there, but all this is unsure. Just something to look out for! ;)
